In the area
Little Bu is situated in the picturesque district of Orphir, midway between Orkney's two main settlements, Stromness and Kirkwall.
In its peaceful and secluded oceanside setting, Little Bu is the perfect destination for families, walkers and bird watchers. Nearby cliff-top walks lead down to the sea and offer stunning views of Scapa Flow and the chance to see seals and otters as well as the native seabirds.
A short stroll away are the ancient remains of St Nicholas Round Kirk - one of only four round churches in the country - which was built into the remains of an old Norse farm. Here, too, is the Orkneyinga Saga Centre, which provides fascinating insight into the rich Viking heritage of the area.
Ferries to the hauntingly beautiful and mysterious island of Hoy depart regularly from the Bay of Houton Pier (5 minutes away by car).
